MODSIM WORLD is a unique
multi-disciplinary International Conference & Exposition for the exchange
of modeling & simulation knowledge, research, and technology across
industry, government, and academia.
Beginning on October 14th at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, MODSIM World 2009
Conference and Expo opened to over 1000 participants. Industry members,
government officials, business leaders, as well as researchers from a wide
variety of organizations and educational institutions turned out to exchange
valuable modeling & simulation knowledge at the Virginia Beach Convention
Center. The theme for MODSIM World 2009 was 21st Century Decision-Making: The Art of Modeling & Simulation.

The third annual four-day international Conference and Expo featured a wide variety of workshops, exhibits and speakers focusing on the unique multi-disciplinary applications of modeling and simulation. Topics covered include the following: Emerging Technologies for Learning & Clinical Practice, Realistic Training for Industry and Education, Best Practices for Realistic Representation of Human Behavior, Learning Through Gaming and Virtual Environments, Models for Human Networks, Modeling & Simulation to Improve Highway Safety & Security, and Incorporating MODSIM into a STEM-Based Program for Middle School Students
MODSIM World
2009 Workshops were held on October 13th to further the dialogue and
training about modeling & simulation. The five workshops included
presentations lead by industry & university experts in the field.
MODSIM World
2009 Track Sessions were conducted from October 14th to the16th on the main topics
of Health & Medicine, Transportation & Logistics, Engineering &
Technology, Education & Training, Defense & Homeland Security, as well
as a cross-cutting track, Serious Games.
Highlights of the Conference included speeches and presentations given by Dr.
Charles Camarda (NASA engineer and astronaut), Dr.
Paul Roman (Associate
Professor of Management Science and Operations Management at both the Royal
Military College of Canada and Queen’s University School of Business), Doug Whatley (founder
and CEO of BreakAway), and Dr. William Swartout
(Director of Technology for USC's Institute for Creative
Technologies and a research associate professor of computer science at USC).
